What to do in Mont-Tremblant in winter: practical guide

· 8 min read

Mont-Tremblant is the #1 winter destination in eastern Canada. Just 20 minutes from Chalet Lac Saint-Thomas, it's the perfect base to experience everything Quebec winters have to offer. Here's the complete guide, updated for the 2026 season.

Ski and snowboard: Mont-Tremblant Resort

Mont-Tremblant Resort offers 102 runs across 4 sides, with a vertical drop of 645 meters. It's the largest ski resort in eastern Canada — and the only ski area that rivals the Rockies for terrain diversity.

For beginners: the bunny hill at the foot of the village and the easy runs on the north side are ideal. For intermediates: the sunny and south sides offer long, well-groomed runs. For experts: the Edge side with its glades and black diamond runs.

Practical tip: Buy your ski tickets online at least 2 weeks ahead to save up to 30%. The resort rarely discounts at the ticket counter.

Snowmobiling: a provincial trail on the property

This is a unique advantage of Chalet Lac Saint-Thomas: the provincial snowmobile trail crosses the 150 acres of the estate directly. In practice, you start your snowmobile from the yard — no trailer loading needed.

The Laurentides provincial network totals over 3,000 km of groomed trails. From the cottage, you can reach Saint-Faustin, Mont-Tremblant, La Conception, or push further to Mont-Laurier. Many stops along the way offer warm restaurants.

Don't have your own snowmobile? Several rental companies in Mont-Tremblant and Saint-Donat offer half-day and full-day packages. Expect about $250-350 CAD per day for a recent model.

Snowshoeing: the silence of a snow-covered forest

Snowshoeing is the most accessible winter activity — and probably the most memorable. At Chalet Lac Saint-Thomas, you have direct access to 1.2 km of private trails leading to the lake, plus many secondary paths on the property.

For longer outings, Mont-Tremblant National Park (30 minutes away) offers dozens of marked trails, from easy to difficult, with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks. Expect $9 CAD per adult for daily SÉPAQ access.

"Snowshoeing isn't sport, it's meditation in motion. A day of snowshoeing in the forest is worth a week of spa for your head."

Dog sledding: a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Several companies offer dog sledding excursions in the Mont-Tremblant region. It's one of the most requested activities by international visitors — and for good reason. You drive your own team of huskies on marked trails through the forest.

Excursions range from half-day (about $150-200 CAD) to full-day with fireside lunch. Booking required, especially for February and March weekends.

Snow tubing: fun for the whole family

For kids (and adults who'll admit it), snow tubing at Tremblant is a must. The resort offers several lanes of different intensities, with a lift that brings you back up automatically.

Expect $25-30 CAD for 2 hours of tubing. It's the perfect activity to end a ski day, or for days when you want a little gentleness in the adventure.

Skating: the frozen lake at the cottage

If conditions are right (and they often are in January and February), the cottage's private lake freezes solid and becomes a giant natural rink. Bring your skates — you'll probably have no other skaters around to bother you.

Otherwise, the Mont-Tremblant pedestrian village offers a free public rink all winter, open 10 AM to 10 PM. A free, magical activity under the village lights.

The power of coming back to the cottage at night

All these activities are amazing. But the real luxury is being able to come back to the cottage at night. No traffic jam to get back to the tourist village, no hotel neighbors partying until 2 AM. Just the silence of a snow-covered forest, an outdoor campfire if you want, and the deep sleep that only comes when you're completely isolated.

This is what guests at Chalet Lac Saint-Thomas tell us most often when they leave: "We did more activities in 4 days than we usually do in 2 weeks elsewhere, but we're more rested than when we arrived."

To book your winter stay: The most requested months are January (US school breaks), February (Valentine's Day), and March (Quebec school break). Book 3 to 6 months ahead for these periods.
